Item Description...
John Ortberg demonstrates how doubt is very much a part of faith and how uncertainty can lead to trust. ?The beliefs that really matter,? he writes, ?are the ones that guide our behavior.? We all hope, Ortberg writes, but we cannot hope without faith, and so we must not hope for something but someone?Jesus Christ. |

 | Great book! Feb 20, 2010 |
| I am glad I bought this book! It is informative and really challenges you to think. It is logical and presents things from a new perspective. I would recommend it to anyone! | | | | Faith and Doubt Nov 8, 2009 |
| We used this book in Bible study and found it to be outstanding in the problems most people run into. The solutions offered are right on point and well written. | | | | Filled with interesting, thought provoking information.... Jul 6, 2009 |
| John Ortberg is very relatable and honest in this book. It is filled with personal stories and quotes from those who choose to believe and those who do not. I got this book on tape for a 21 year old that was having doubts about God and Faith. It is refreshing and affirming to hear that most people of even the strongest faith have doubts and it is because of the doubt that we can have a stronger faith. | | | | More Depth Needed... Jun 7, 2009 |
"A mile wide and an inch deep..."
That would apply to this book: "A mile wide and an inch deep..." maybe two or three inches deep, but not anywhere near the depth it could be and should be.
But the last three chapters save the day...not enugh to make this a great book, but enough to put it in the "ought to read" category.
This is a good primer, a good starting point for those who are just beginning with the age-old--and ever critical issues--of faith and doubt. Just exactly what do we beleive? And why?
But, oh, there is a need for more depth...and less "cutesy" writing,
And remember the old saying, friends: "There is more faith in honest doubt than in all the creeds ever written or spoken...."
Also, "Seek and Ye Shall Find...(Ever wonder how Jesus knew to speak the King's English so well???) The problem is, too many of us are afraid or too lazy to seek, and many of us are afraid of what we wil find--something--some truth--that might be different from our preconceived opinions which we regard as fact or as "gospel."
Not a bad book, but it is only a starter.
"Seek and Ye Shall Find..."
As the author says, "Given the choice of truth or Jesus, take the truth...it leads you to Jesus. | | | | An outstanding and honest musing on doubt May 18, 2009 |
| I found this book an outstanding, honest, and often humorous musing on faith and doubt. Too often we think to be faithful means banishing all doubt. But, John Ortberg argues effectively that doubt can be useful, and does not need to remain hidden behind our public face. It is an easy read that would also work well in a small group setting. | | | Write your own review about Faith And Doubt
