Item Description...
Product Description Most of us have no idea where we’re going most of the time. Perfect.
“Celtic Christians had a name for the Holy Spirit–An Geadh-Glas, or ‘the Wild Goose.’ The name hints at mystery. Much like a wild goose, the Spirit of God cannot be tracked or tamed. An element of danger, an air of unpredictability surround Him. And while the name may sound a little sacrilegious, I cannot think of a better description of what it’s like to follow the Spirit through life. I think the Celtic Christians were on to something….
Most of us will have no idea where we are going most of the time. And I know that is unsettling. But circumstantial uncertainty also goes by another name: Adventure.” --from the introduction

 | God-ordained passion becomes your responsibility. p.20 Dec 6, 2008 |
| Every once in awhile I come across a book that leaves me wanting to devour it from cover to cover in one sitting and, at the same time, read slowly and savor every word, prolonging the time before it inevitably ends. This is one of those books. Mark's passion for the God-infused life is evident in the work he is doing and he, like me, wants every person to experience the adventure of fulfilling their God-given mission, purpose, or destiny (call it what you like). I call it living out our Bible Story. I won't be passing my copy along. Nope! But I will be buying more books to give away as gifts. Great for everyone, high school and up! | | | | Excellent Read!! | This is one of those life changing books. Mark Batterson is a brilliant author. I have read his other two books as well "In a Pit With a Lion on a Snowy Day" and "ID the True You" - both fabulous. | | | | Breaking Free From Cages Nov 25, 2008 |
In Batterson's follow up to In a Pit With a Lion On a Snowy Day, he continues to challenge readers to pursue God given callings and break free of mediocrity and the status quo. Wild Goose Chase goes into further detail on some of the "cages" that hold us back from pursuing God's call on our lives.
Be careful though, don't read this book if you just want a warm fuzzy pick me up. Batterson is not afraid to get up in your face and make you uncomfortable. This is exactly the type of challenge that many people need. Rather than sitting back and being "irresponsibly responsible" he encourages readers to pursue "responsible irresponsibility." In other words sometimes, the Holy Spirit, known to Celtic Christians as the wild goose, will prompt you to do something which seems illogical on the surface but when seeking after and pursuing Him, will take you on adventures and higher heights never imaginable from the comforts of the routine.
The book is filled with examples of people who seek after the wild goose and do dangerous things. Satan is afraid of dangerous Christians. He much prefers nice timid Christians who are afraid to break out of the mold and pursue challenges laid before them by God. Like a wild animal in its natural environment, Batterson encourages us to be wild and dangerous in the environment God has called us to.
Read this book then go out and be a mighty warrior, chasing where the wild goose leads. | | | | Go Chase! Nov 7, 2008 |
I won this book in a giveaway. I read that the author is a pastor of National Community Church in Washington, DC--a happening church. Since I was raised in DC, I entered the giveaway. Boy, am I glad that I won!
Chock full of wisdom, this small book is filled with sermon-type discussions on the things of God. The author surprises with chapter 2 "Goose Bumps," when he tells the reader to stop praying. He challenges with chapter 4 "Eight-foot Ceilings," with the background story of the Wright Brothers. And he encourages with chapter 6 "Sometimes It Takes a Shipwreck" when he tells of a disappointment in his life.
This is a good devotional book for an individual, an excellent source for a Bible study group to use chapter by chapter, and an all-around worthy read.
