Real Time Connections is a book that explains globalization and member mobilization. Bob Roberts shares many stories in the book that reflect his own experiences and conversations with others. I found the stories to be the most helpful and practical part of the book. Bob's transparency and heart for Jesus and the world is evident throughout Real Time Connections.
The main challenge of this book is that it is intended to be written to everyday Christians, yet there are many concepts and ideas that I believe they will find foreign. The book is primarily based on the theory of Northwood and Bob Roberts and it is not a practical guide of mobilization for all Christians. It provides theory, ideas, and the heart of the Great Commission and globalization without dictating how individual Christians or churches need to accomplish it. The good thing about this is that it allows freedom of thought and flexibility for each setting. However, the potential negative is that it can leave people who want to engage glocally without the practical tools to make that a reality. Overall, this was a good book. It should create dialogue and discussion about how Christians relate to the world, their settings, and other people of faith.

In Real-Time Connections, Dr. Roberts presents a mature understanding of the message of the Christian faith in practical terms. For too long the Christian religion and church has been misunderstood only as a gateway to Heaven, an escape from a sinful earth. Bob Roberts' understanding of the message of good news as presented by Jesus is not a new perspective, but an ancient one. He reminds his readers that the Christian God cares not only for the human soul, but about all the domains of this world - health, education, art, business, water, etc. Church is not a place to gather, but is the cumulative effect of a people who serve the world out of gratitude to God and love for other people.
Bob Roberts' message is one that all Christian leaders should take to heart. Do not be deterred by the casual writing style - he is more a speaker than a writer, and as such, it is easy to lose the significance of the content in the Texan colloquial pace. Even so, the content is critical. The heart of the book is found in chapters 6-7 where he deals with the "why" and "how" of global Christian engagement and discipleship.

| Bob provides an essential and practical tool for both individuals and churches to live out their calling. As individuals, many people are stuck in jobs, or vocations and are not satisfied because they miss God's calling. Churches are stagnating because people aren't released to fulfill their callings in the world and ministry is left to the few ministerial "professionals". A must read for anyone who wants to truly impact his/her community.
Have you ever had the gnawing feeling that you're not doing exactly what you're supposed to be doing or that there's more to where you're at? What if we are exactly where we're supposed to be but we're just not doing all that God has instore for us. In his latest book, Bob Roberts tries to help us understand how we should be "going."
My two favorite chapters have been one and three. In chapter one, Roberts talks about four misunderstandings the church has. In chapter three, Roberts talks about a person's job being his ministry. My favorite quote is, "Those deep longings most of us feel to make a difference in the world are our dim recognition of God's call to us. In our heart of hearts, we want God to use us."

| Bob Roberts' most recent work gives real insight into not only where the church should be going but where it could take you, as well. Many a time, Christians fall prey to the notion that they're waiting to be called by God to do his work and only then will they prepare for what God wants them to do. But what if instead, the calling is as simple and foundational as any other tenet of the faith? And that God has been preparing you all along for where you are now and where you will go? Your life experiences, your previous employers, your sunday school classes; those were your seminary. God wants you working for him. But not necessarily in a church.
